Today’s story is from a co-worker. His family suffered a horrible accident, and found their way of coping with the pain could help others.
A few years back, his 2 and 5-year old sons were seriously burned when a pot of boiling water accidentally fell from the stove.
The 2-year old suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns on his hands and belly, while the 5-year-old suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on both his feet. The 5-year-old’s burns were so severe that he needed skin graft surgery.
While the 5-year-old recovered from his burns and surgery he passed time playing with Lego projects. The family soon realized the Lego projects helped him deal with the pain better than any of the painkillers he was prescribed.
This “secret weapon” kept his mind busy, distracted him from the pain, and helped pass the time until he could walk again. Friends and family soon learned about the “secret weapon” and began sending more Lego projects for him to play with.
The 2 and 5-year-old boys both made full recoveries and now enjoy playing soccer and karate.
The family wanted to share their “secret weapon” with other kids in the burn unit, so the family and friends pulled together to raise money and donated about 25 new Lego projects to the hospital.
